5 Easy Home Care Tips For February

I know! Between work, life, friends and family, life get busy. You have spent a few hundred thousand dollars purchasing a home. You want to minimize additional cost by doing maintenance. These are some inexpensive ways of caring for your home.

Clean and vacuum curtains, window blinds, and ceiling fans.

Dirt and dusts accumulate on your curtain, drapes, window blinds and ceiling fans. Clean them. You want them looking so fresh and so clean, clean. Might help with your allergies too. The more often you clean them, the less disgusting it will be.

Test for carbon monoxide and smoke detectors. Replace batteries as needed.

Inoperable carbon monoxide and smoke detectors defeats the purpose of having one. Neither does dead batteries so be sure to text your carbon and smoke detectors to make sure that it works. This is one of the ways you protect, not only your home but also your family. Easy to do and the benefit is priceless.

Check caulking around sinks, tubs and shower area. Repair as needed.

Take a few minutes to patch up any problem areas by checking the sealing and caulking in your bathrooms, kitchen and anywhere where water can intrude. This will help mitigate water damage and mold issues. Water damages cost a fortune so it is best to be proactive and just do basic maintenance to prevent spending a fortune.

Clean garbage disposal.

Like any other appliances, it is a good habit to clean your garbage disposal every once in a while. Put some crush ice in it and run cold water to sharpen. Add baking soda and citrus peels and voila, you are done!

Change your HVAC filter.

Air filters are not designed to filter the air forever. Changing the air filter is easy and inexpensive. As the name implies, it “filter” dust, pollen, pet dancer, dead skin and other small particles out of the air so that you and your family can breathe better quality air. It also helps protect your unit. Takes a minute or two to replace it. Believe me, if I can do it, you can too.

Try these easy home maintenance tips to help keep your home in tip top shape.
